The Sierra Angels is the premier angel investment group in the Northern Sierra region. Its 50 Members are primarily former business owners and senior corporate executives experienced in financing and developing emerging enterprises, who provide seed-stage investments in promising local technology ventures and support the entrepreneurs we fund with mentoring and connections. Membership in the Sierra Angels is by invitation and is limited to active accredited investors meeting stringent qualification criteria.  The strong and relevant background of our Members provides entrepreneurs with significant experience-based high value-add coaching as an important complement to the capital our group invests. We have invested in more than fifty companies to date.

The Sierra Angels takes a leading role in collaborating with other angel groups in the region and with earlier stage VCs to achieve the best possible results in quality deal flow sharing, due diligence, domain expertise and collaborative investing. We are especially active throughout the state of Nevada and the CA/NV I-80 corridor.

Our group also participates actively in the communities in which we serve to ensure an entrepreneurial-friendly environment and a good place to do business. These include active relationships with universities & research institutions, government agencies and economic development institutions and other community leaders throughout the region related to our mission. Examples of Boards on which our Members serve include University of Nevada College of Engineering and College of Business Administration, Desert Research Institute, Research Ventures, Inc., U.C. Davis External Research Advisory Board, Sierra Nevada College, Nevada Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, and Golden Capital Network.

The Sierra Angels is a sponsor of numerous educational and networking functions to facilitate technology-based and entrepreneurial-driven economic expansion in the region. These include: Silver & Gold Entrepreneur and VC Conferences, Silver & Gold Venture Club (co-founder), The Power of Angel Investing seminars-a Kauffman Foundation program, Vegas Venture Forum, Nevada Governor’s Cup Collegiate Business Plan Competition, and the Green Technology Entrepreneurship Academy (GTEA) workshop (a UC Davis-developed program designed to provide leading researchers across the nation the knowledge to commercialize their green-tech scientific discoveries.)

In 2005, a Sierra Angels Member was selected in a national competition to be the inaugural recipient of the Kauffman Foundation/Angel Capital Association-sponsored Hans Severiens Award for angel capital leadership. Sierra Angels has been featured in Business Week Small Business, Worth Magazine (Robb Report) and numerous regional publications.

The Sierra Angels meet at regular intervals to review opportunities that have been sponsored by one or more of our Members. If you have a technology venture that you would like us to consider for such a review, please visit our "Entrepreneurs" page.
