SBIR Workshops in Reno, December 2-3, 2010

December 2-3, 2010. Workshop on SBIR and other Funding Sources

Event: SBIR and Other Funding Sources for Small Bus Workshop-2 days

Presenter: Various speakers

Description: While these are challenging times for cutting edge small businesses, federal agencies and investors continue to seek out technologies and opportunities with promising futures. For example, in the coming decades, clean energy — solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal and biomass technologies — are intended to form the cornerstone of many U.S. economies, and private investors and federal agencies alike will search for inventive entrepreneurs to help with research and development, including research and development related to energy.

This workshop brings highlights two sources of funding for small businesses. First, we will have representatives from four, major federal agencies supporting the Small Business Innovation Research Program which provides around $2.6 billion dollars to high technology companies through a competitive process aimed at securing innovations that meet federal needs.

Presentations will be made on the specific priorities of the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy. Other federal agencies have been invited to participate and we expect two more to be present.

Second, at least five angel and venture funding organizations are participating. They include C4Cube, Reno Angels, U.S. Angels, Highway 12 t and the Rocky Mountain Venture Capital Group. A special feature is that some of the federal agencies and other funding groups will meet with entrepreneurs and innovators in one on one sessions, as well as informally on a scheduled basis. Bring your elevator pitch!

In addition to learning how companies can effectively compete for funding, there will be several “success stories” offered by companies that have been successful in obtaining SBIR grants.

Hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno, the annual workshop will be held Dec 2 and 3, 2010, at John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nev., east of the University campus and 15 minutes from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport.

The workshop is designed specifically for:

  • Entrepreneurs engaged in innovative research
  • Research scientists from public and private labs
  • Public and private analytical laboratory managers
  • Corporate CEOs/COOs/CFOs
  • Prime contractor procurement representatives
